Exciting changes are coming to aged care in Australia! From 1 November 2025, the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards will take effect under the new Aged Care Act. For the first time, food and nutrition will have their own dedicated standard – Standard 6: Food and Nutrition.
This new standard places greater emphasis on annual menu reviews, resident input into meal planning, culturally appropriate choices and the overall enjoyment and dignity of mealtimes. Aged care providers will be expected to offer meals that are not only safe and nutritious, but also tailored to individual preferences and experiences.
